Premium Placement for Pictures of People, Places and Things

In celebration of En Foco’s 35th anniversary, the New York-based arts non-profit and the paper company Canson Infinity invite fine art and documentary photographers to submit their work to the international competition People/Places/Things.

The aim of the competition is to identify and promote talented emerging and mid-career artists, to create cross-cultural dialogue and to provide artists with exposure and access. All photo-based works are eligible and artists of all nationalities and every ethnicity are encouraged to submit.  

Besides the chance for significant exposure and valuable prizes, the competition’s $45 entry fee offers the valuable perks of an En Foco membership or membership extension (a $50 value) and a Canson Infinity Discovery Pack to all who enter. 

Simply register on the competition Web site, follow the directions for sizing image files, and then upload five images that convey a story around one of the three competition themes, which are open to creative interpretation. Each image should be submitted with full title and caption information (title, series title, year taken, medium and size). A resume and artist statement of up to 350 words should be pasted into the application where prompted. If desired, artists may submit images to more than one category, with a separate portfolio and entry fee for each.

All submissions will be previewed by a committee of En Foco curators and advisors, and then eight distinguished jurors will review the top 40 entries per category to select the lucky finalists. One winner and four honorable mentions will be chosen for each category, totaling 16 prizewinners in all.

The top three category winners will receive a custom prize packet featuring a $500 Canson Infinity Gift Certificate, an Olympus E-510 Digital SLR, Xrite's ColorMunki calibration program, a membership to PDN's Photoserve online portfolio, a $150 Blurb Gift Certificate, a Tamrac Adventure Messenger 5 bag, worldwide exposure for their winning images on Canson's online gallery and display at Canson's PDN PhotoPlus Expo booth in New York, October 22 – 24, 2009.

Twelve Honorable Mention winners will receive a $100 Canson Infinity Gift Certificate and a $75 Blurb Product Gift Certificate. All artists who enter will receive exposure via En Foco ’s Web site and blog.

The early bird entry deadline is June 24, 2009 or last minute submissions can be made until July 1, 2009 for an additional $10 per category,.
