The Bear Deluxe magazine wants to know, what does “sustainability” mean to you?

An award-winning quarterly environmental magazine published in Portland, Oregon, and distributed nationwide, The Bear Deluxe is requesting submissions for a response-based feature.

“Please send the magazine your short writings, visuals and ideally, any working definitions that you or your organization employ to establish standards of what the bejesus is ‘sustainable.’ Sustainability has become a catch-all word for all that is green or becoming greener. Does its increasingly common use unnecessarily muddy the water of the environmental debate, or signal a paradigm shift in the way modern society sees its place in the world? “

Guidelines

o Submit original or found writing and visual art to bear@orlo.org, or mail to P.O. Box 10342, Portland, Oregon, 97216. No calls or faxes please. On submissions include your full name, contact phone number, city/state/country of residence; affiliation/personal description/age (optional)

o Visual art: Info graphics, cartoons and illustrations will be accepted. PDF format highly preferred. Do not send any images over 1 mb. If image is too large to send high-res, send low-res and be available for other.

o Copyright: Upon submission, The Bear Deluxe Magazine retains all first-time publishing rights for both writing and visual art. Upon submission, web-publishing rights are maintained for a period of six months following publication.

o What will happen to submission: Representative submissions will be published in print in issue #25 of The Bear Deluxe Magazine. Depending on the volume of submissions, a complete listing will be posted on-line at www.orlo.org

o “What the Bejesus is ‘Sustainable?’” response-based feature is open to all persons living, particularly those living in their own sustainable world.
